2 Kings 2:13
He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
Now that I realize that I am getting older. I spend more time considering what MARK I will leave on the next generation. Passing the baton or legacy to the next generation is a sobering thought to say the least.
I stated in a message one Sunday morning “that I no longer worry about who will we pass the baton of this Christian walk to.” “I now am concerned what kind of baton will we pass on to the next generation.”
Will it be something that they will be proud to carry on?
Will they refuse to be a part of what this baton stands for?
Will they even recognize what this baton even stands for?
In all that has happened in the realm of Christianity I believe we OWE it to those that are coming behind us to pass along to them a baton that is full of examples of people committed to Christ. A baton filled with living a life before God that influenced people to Jesus and made a difference in the lives of people.
Elijah left such a mark on the life of Elisha that Elisha looked forward to picking up the mantle. Is there anyone ready and looking forward to the baton to be passed onto them?
We OWE it to the next generation that we leave a legacy that will help push them and the cause of Christ further than we ever dreamed.
